Ryan Allis interviewed by UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp on Entrepreneurship and UNC

In a video conversation released today Ryan Allis, co-founder of iContact, and Holden Thorp, UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor, discuss the Carolina Entrepreneurship Club, founding iContact, their first office on Franklin Street, and more.

Allis, who started the company in the summer of 2003, after his freshman year, grew iContact to 350 employees, $49 million in revenue, and $52 million in venture capital in nine years.

Vocus bought iContact for $169 million in mid-February. Allis left the company earlier this month, and plans to pursue business school as well as travel. Allis is an investor in other local companies.

On March 13, Allis and his business partner and fellow co-founder Aaron Houghton, each fulfilled a stock pledge, donating a total of $270,000 to CED to support entrepreneurship in our region. This represented the single largest one-time donation in the organization's history.
