ACO Savings Enabled by Care Coordination Innovation from Infina Connect Six Percent Total Medical Cost Advantage Realized

CARY, N.C. (February 11, 2014) – With a national spotlight focused on rising medical costs, healthcare IT pioneer and population health innovator, Infina Connect, is making significant headway in its crusade to reverse this trend. In the first year of managing a patient population under a commercial ACO agreement, Key Physicians realized a six percent advantage in total medical costs enabled by Infina's state-of-the-art care coordination and referral management solution, Intelligent Care Coordinator™ (ICC).

The physician referral process is more critical than ever to effective patient care, yet it is typically inefficient and ineffective. To confront this issue, ICC enables physicians and staff to communicate, collaborate and share information about their referred patients through two central mechanisms:
  • The "Network Affiliation" capability helps to ensure patients are referred to the most appropriate, high quality providers resulting in better patient care, reduced overall costs and improved patient satisfaction.
  • The "Care Coordination" capability facilitates secure communication between care team members, offers relevant clinical information, provides accurate referral status and reduces gaps in care.
"ICC boosted us to an 83% success rate for steering patients to in-network, high quality, high value providers, compared to less than 40% for our competitors,” said Ray Coppedge, executive director at Key Physicians. "The ability to deploy this technology rapidly over a diverse group of practices, hospitals and clinics played a critical role in this achievement."

"Our goal in partnership with Key Physicians was to improve both quality and costs by enabling better referral decisions and improving secure communication across the care team. The successful adoption of ICC enabled very significant results within the first year and helped Key win additional ACO contracts," said Mark Hefner, CEO of Infina Connect.

Today, a majority of providers in the Raleigh, North Carolina area are connected via ICC and are coordinating referrals and care for their patients. This network of over 1500 providers in over 400 locations continues to grow.
