Triangle Startup Factory welcomes Spring Class

CED Member and community partner Triangle Startup Factory, the startup business accelerator based in the American Underground in Durham, NC, opened their spring session this morning, welcoming six new companies.

The Spring 2013 class is the third class for Triangle Startup Factory. Each class consists of 6 companies who complete a comprehensive application and interview process.

According to Triangle Startup Factory partners Chris Heivly and Dave Neal, 11 of the first 12 "graduates" of the accelerator remain in business. 10 of these companies remain in the Triangle, said Heivly, in an interview with WRAL Tech Wire.

Each startup selected for the accelerator program receives $50,000 in funding, office space in the American Underground, and training and mentoring opportunities from the Triangle's entrepreneurial community. Each startup also receives a 3-month CED Membership.

Firms that complete the program are eligible to receive additional funding - up to $150,000 through a convertible note - from the Triangle Startup Factory.

Heivly and Neal have a reputation for selecting companies based on their founding teams, rather than purely on the technology currently developed from each company.

The accelerator received more than 100 applications for these 6 spots, said Heivly, "and it's the most competitive applicant pool yet."

  1. Perhaps the simplest and the best way to classify apps is to take a look at the general categories of application stores. This way is perfect for its intended purpose: facilitate the search for needed apps. Here we tried to group apps in another manner: picking the most spread types, interesting for mobile startups and mobile development.
