TearScience, a medical device company headquartered in Morrisville, NC, recently received the Southeast Deal of the Year Venture Capital Transaction Award from Southeast BIO (SEBIO). TearScience raised a $44.5M Series C round in May, 2010 from a diversified portfolio of investors. This round of funding was the largest of the year in NC and the Southeast region. TearScience has created a treatment for evaporative dry eye, a disease that approximately 65 million people suffer from worldwide. TearScience is a CED member since 2006 and many of its employees are actively involved in the CED community. Tim Willis, the President and CEO, spoke at CED’s MedTech Conference in 2008 and attended the Biotech/Life Science conference this year.
