N.C. - December 11, 2013 – Shanahan Law Group, PLLC, the North Carolina Center of Innovation for
Nanobiotechnology (NC COIN) and Campbell Law School are pleased to
announce that Secretary John Skvarla of the N.C. Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (NC DENR) will be the guest speaker at the December 18, 2013
session of their seminar series designed to assist startup and early-stage
companies. This session will focus on
incorporating best practices related to employees, contracts, and standard
business operations.
Prior to joining the NC DENR, John Skvarla served as CEO for Restoration Systems, an environmental mitigation firm based in Raleigh that helps improve and restore wetlands and waterways. Additionally, Secretary Skvarla served as COO of The Aviation Group, Inc., was managing director of an investment banking office, and a founding attorney of Skvarla, Wyrick, and Robbins law firm.

This will be followed by presentations from John Branch covering employment issues and Henry Kopf addressing business practices related to contracts, purchasing, and quoting.
This seminar is the second in a five part seminar series covering a number of topics important to the success of early-stage businesses, including: (1) Business formation; (2) The importance of incorporating good business practices in contracts, purchasing, receiving, and employment matters; (3) Intellectual property issues; (4) Fundraising and liquidity events; and (5) International business issues.
