Durham-based open app store PocketGear, the world's largest cross platform and content marketplace with a catalog of more than 140,000 paid and free titles available for discovery and download, recently announced that it has raised $15 million in a second round of funding.

The funds are earmarked to continue product development, grow the sales and marketing team and to move towards global expansion.  The round was led by Trident Capital with participation from BlackBerry Partners Fund.

PocketGear has been a CED member since 2009. Adding to his contributions from his tenure at Motricity, company CEO Jud Bowman remains active in the CED community. He has participated as an expert speaker at CED events and, in 2009 he presented at CED's Venture conference. The company was recently selected as a North Carolina Company to Watch; representatives will accept their award at the ceremony on September 23, 2010 at the Raleigh Marriott, City Center.

"PocketGear exemplifies the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that lead to success in the marketplace and in the future," says CED President Joan Siefert Rose. "CED is proud to recognize the accomplishments of all our 25 winners and their significant contributions to our state's economy. PocketGear is certainly worthy of watching, and we look forward to seeing continued growth and achievement."
